Reflection

Since the beginning of the semester, I put goals to myself to achieve throughout this class, Eng 21007. I wanted to work on my pacing in writing, organizing my ideas, and to work on my syntax. I have learned a lot during this course and developed a lot of skills to help improve my writing and the way I think. I have passed through many events that created joy, and some that diminished this joy.

In this class, we, classmates, done multiple assignments; and each assignment left an impact on me. Through the process of writing these essays, I have learned to choose the appropriate sources to support my reasoning. I knew how to use specific sources that would strengthen my comprehension. For example, media, peer-edited, scholarly, a magazine, or even a newspaper. Apart from each source combined will make the perfect reasoning to the reader. Also, I have learned to determine the focal point of my paper or my writing; this lets me go straight to the point without getting into irrelevant branches. Throughout the process of my writing, I should specify my audience, which is a crucial step so I can choose the appropriate diction and style my reader and completely convey my message coherently. These all fall under the term rhetorical situation in which I started to get a hand in it and master it. The rhetorical situation is a critical skill that not every writer has, and it takes a lot of practice and patience.

One of the experiences I lived in the class, the peer review sessions, left a significant impact on me. The peer review sessions were a reason to diminish my joy because I realize that I am not a good writer, I still need to improve, I have a lot of mistakes using diction and in my syntax. However, I know that this process of peer editing is the most beneficial for me because it gives me an idea of how the audience can perceive my writing as well as it spots the light on my writing weaknesses. Therefore, peer review gave me future guidelines and instructions that helped to strengthen my writing style and way of thinking. On the other side, one thing that has diminished joy is the time pressure and deadlines. We write an essay after essay with no resting time in the middle, which generated a lot of tension and stress. However, this was also helpful to make us practice managing our time and writing under the pressure of time to do the writing in the best way in the least amount of possible time.

Furthermore, I lived one of the most advantageous joyful time in the class, especially when working with my classmates during the time of the group project. The proposal assignment was a reason of strengthening my social skills and cooperating with others to produce something meaningful, in this case was the project of Mandragora 6000. Besides working with classmates on the project, in-class discussions were also a reason of strengthening my social skills. We, classmates and the professor, had meaningful and joyful discussions that encouraged me to participate and share this experience with the class members.

Overall the course was great, it has developed a lot of skills in my mindset and strengthened my conventions. If I have the chance to take a class that follows the same way of guidelines and instructions, definitely it would help me strengthen my abilities even more.
